Follow this road around the mesa for almost 16 miles until you reach the aid station, 1/10 mile after a cattle guard. This is Smith Mesa Aid. Please don’t drive along Mesa road (across from Sheep’s Bridge road) if you’re going to access this aid station. It is a narrow road and we want to reduce traffic for the exhausted runners. You won’t regret the Smith Mesa road drive, it is one of the most scenic roads in the area with incredible views. The aid station will be manned and ready from 6:30pm on Friday to 12pm on Saturday. Continue 9 miles you’ll pass a gas station on the left-hand side in Apple Valley. Continue on Hwy 59 for about two more miles. Watch for a “Scenic Byway” sign, and turn left onto a dirt road (Smithsonian Butte Rd.) Three miles later, just as you reach the mountain, the Gooseberry Mesa road turns off on your left. Another 3.6 miles after the turnoff, take the right fork at the outhouse. Stay on this road until it ends at the mesa’s edge.
